"Vcore setting higher than rated maximum"?

Recommended Posts

Hullo! I've had some problems with my acer laptop for some time now.

I suspect the fan for the cpu is broken or at least not fully functional.

The machine simply shuts off at "will" at random intervals.

a diagnostic tool called Sandra (from Sisoftware) tells me that my vcore setting is

higher than maximum rated, and at one time it measured the temp. to be 106 degrees celcius!

The machine runs fine when a usb powered fan (for human cooling :P) is blowing air up the intake at the bottom of the machine.

I've been told that I can fix this by lowering my vcore voltage, tho it will have some impact on the speed of the cpu.

So my question is, does there exist a program which can do this from windows or dos? I CANNOT do it from bios, as there are no other settings there than boot sequence and clock (as in time) settings.

There are no special keys to press to get more bios options, on this model (Acer aspire 1300). I've seached the net, and gotten confirmation from another owner of a similar laptop that no such function exists in that bios. Hope someone can help me out.

kind regards - s0fus
