hiho @ all,

i wanted to install a newer nvidia driver on my suse 8.1 sys, so i

downloaded:

NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.suse81.i586.rpm
NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.suse81.i586.rpm

$ rpm -Uvh NVIDIA_kernel.i386.rpm
$ rpm -e NVIDIA_GLX
$ rpm -ivh NVIDIA_GLX.i386.rpm

according to these commands i installed the downloaded packages, but the

x-server won't start and quits with following message:

(--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xDC000000
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send

Did you edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file to change your video adapter from "nv" to "nvidia"???
