Building a Web Server on XP Professional

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to set up my web server on my windows xp workstation. I need to know if anyone out there knows what steps I need to take to build the server.

Thanks.

1. Install IIS from Add/Remove Programs, Add/REmove Windows Components, and tick Internet Information Services (IIS). Insert CD if asked.

2. It will create a folder called C:\Inetpub and C:\Inetpub\wwwroot.

3. You can create your html pages and place them in wwwroot (or in subfolders if you wish)

4. Access web server locally via http://localhost/

I think really it's Solaris you're after 8)

Only kiddin' Apache or IIS is they way to go.

Maybe worth just researching the most appropriate option for you- depending on what you intend to do with your website
