How to protect folder through password without using any software in windows 200

Please suggest me as to how i can protect my folders thru..pwd..without using any S/W downloads for the same in windows 2000 professional.

The best thing would be to use NTFS permissions, without your logon credentials, all access is denied to those folders/files.
