distorted sound in unreal tournament 2004 demo on linux

I'm using red hat 9 now and whenever i play ut 2004 i either get no soun at all or distorted sound. Any body help me solve this prob?

Go to the computer store and get an off the shelf SoundBlaster. They are very reasonably priced. If you have a spare AGP port, go with a SoundBlaster AGP. If not, get a PCI. RH 9 will have no trouble finding and configuring it. If it doesn't, just run as root..

I have same problem under Fedora
and SBLive:

Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07)
Subsystem: Creative Labs SB Live! 5.1 Model SB0100

on ASUS P800S <P4> mobo
radeon 9200 256 vram <fglrx from yesterday>

Linux myhost 2.6.8.1-cko7 #2 Sat Oct 2 01:49:19 CEST 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

fedora unstable <nyquist repository among others>

NOTE: sound problems appear only on network game. local- flawlessly

A couple of comments on SB sound cards. There are many varients of this card, many are legacy cards, such as those used by Gateway, are made to run in Windows on a Gateway system.

Pay close attention to the model number. If you bought a cheap SB online, chances are it is one of these cards. All kinds of issues. Model SB0100 rings a bell...I'll look it up later.

Also, when using a pci addon sound card, make sure that you disable onboard sound in the bios.
