Computer becomes non-responsive after a few mins

After turning the computer on and running windows perfectly, after a few minutes the computer becomes sort of non-responsive. Like i am able to open new IE windows easily and browse files, but i am unable to run programs (e.g. Task Manager - i run it then it just appears in the task bar). Opera runs fine too. But other programs dont.

Ive ran NAV and trojan remover with nil results. same with adaware. i have no idea wats going on.

the programs currently running are: NAVCE, Symantec Client Firewall, sygate manager, netlimiter, InCD, daemon tools
