How to run Scandisk on W2k

Hi, I have a friend with a clicking harddrive that will not boot to windows 2k. I thought I could boot to a boot disk and run Scandisk.exe but that doesn't seem to be the case.

How can I run Scandisk.exe from a computer that will not boot to Wk2?
