Would changing ATI cards require driver reinstall?

Recommended Posts

I have a Sapphire ATI 9100 (8500LE) card that I will be replacing with a PowerColor ATI 9600Pro.

Do I have to do the whole nine yards of a uninstall and reinstall when I switch these cards using the same driver package?

Running 2k w/sp4

Short answer is yes you would be better off to uninstall but you can also look at it this way.

if you installed the drivers that came with your card (from the cd) then yes you would want to uninstall first as it is most likely they are drivers released for that brand of card and not the other.

however if you install the official Catalyst drivers from ATI's site then you could get away with just dropping in the new card and having it recognized. (most likely but not a promise)

but your safest and best bet is to unistall then shut down and put in the new card...
