Another MSN question

Hey, I have two computers running XP Pro and they both have MSN. The laptop has MSN 4.7, and the desktop has MSN 6.1. Sometimes I want to transfer files through MSN because my network isn't working at the moment. I have a switch and two IP's from the same ISP that provides internet for both computers. When I try to transfer a file from one computer to the other on MSN, it always fails. It is not able to recieve the file.

Does anyone have an idea why this may happen?
