I'm not sure if there is a limit or not, but perhaps it's more an issue with DUN then anything else wink

I would test the limit theory by renaming the hosts file and then opening this renamed file and then copying and pasting say half the entries into a newly created hosts file. See if it works with this size, if not then I'd cut the entries in half again until it works.

Then I would add some more say 100~200 entries until I reach the non-functional threshold.

One thing I've noticed with 2k over XP is that I usually have to logoff from the local machine and log back on again even after making one change to the hosts file, not sure why that is but since upgrading my workstation to XP this is no longer neccessary.

I would now look at the ISP side of things and see what maybe an issue here.

Perhaps look at the DUN and various tweaks and such to make sure things are adjusted for dialup instead of broadband, you did mention this was your old machine which I'm sure was on a bigger pipe wink

I personally think Flash FXP is da bomb baby laugh

However I understand it's a personal preference more then anything else wink

I'm connected to the leechmenow account without any issues with WS FTP however I'll try it out with the test account and see what happens.

i dont know if you fixed the problem now but maybe the problem is the format.

are you using 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1 format
maybe try switching?

on a side note:maybe your program could have the ability to make the switch

ok then i guess that's not the problem

0.0.0.0 is supposedly faster but causes problems on some network mostly because of proxys...

for you information it's

127.0.0.1 localhost then the rest of the file would be

0.0.0.0 bullshit.com

Did she install dialup software provided by her ISP? This could be the culprit.

Networkwise shouldnt matter. the only thing different that I am aware of is this: Netbios over IP is disabled by default on dialup, and the dialup becaomes the default gateway.
