Question: If I have to reformat the hard drive, I have the W98SE CD and the owner of the PC has WXPHOME upgrade. I've never upgraded from W98SE to WXP. I've heard horror stories. ANy comments?? WOuld it make more sense just to get the actual WXPPRO CD and reformat that way instead of going from W98SE to XPHOME?
The owner of the PC also has a cable modem. What do I need to do to reinstall that?? ANy comments? Helps?? prayers??? ;(

Just boot from the XP CD, and insert the 98 CD when the setup program asks you. Much easier smile

As for the cable modem, it should be pretty straightforwards. They're normally all automatically configured, but you could always check the TCP/IP settings and make a note of them if any of the addresses are actually specified.
