What I ended up doing is right clicking the toolbar and putting a new tab icon up there. It seems it does not want to display a tab if only one is open. I hope you find a better solution.

Thanks, I guess that will do for now.
I thought it would open a new tab anytime you clicked on a bookmark
And you have to exit the page for it to close.

Middle click your mouse on a link, and that will open it in a new tab. Also, if you right click on your bookmarks you will have the ability to open them in tabs. Mine open that way by default, but I don't have access to a box running it right now to remember my settings.

For some reason my middle click won't work
Using the Logitech Mx700
If i right click it i can open a link in a tab, but there is a setting "open links in the background"
checked or unchecked makes no difference.

Ctrl+Click will also open a link or bookmark in a backgroud tab. Ctrl+Shift+Click will open it in a foreground tab. I think the open links in background setting is for dealing with links outside of firebird.

I use this. Tho you may have a different opinion on which tab browsing extension you wish to use. I find it quite useful. It assists in opening a bookmark in a new tab and also opens typed urls in the URL bar in a new tab. Been using it for so long that I forgot when and how I found it.
