Anyone know how to disable the system speaker in 2000? I am using an ancient DOS program which likes to be loud.

Try disabling the system speaker in the device manager under system devices.
Sometimes you have the slider under volume control called PC speaker. Muting that could help.

I searched for the device before and didn't find it. I found it now though. Disabling didn't make any difference. Also there is no setting under volume control; that was the first thing I checked.
I am running this app from a dos promt. Is there a dos command that will disable it?

There are some settings in the registry but I can't remember exactly.
Try using a tweaking programme. I use Jermars Tweaki For Power Users (www.jermar.com/tweaki..htm) and I can see this option under "wintweaks/system".
