When I use the registry hack or the gpedit.msc setting to disble latest version of Windows Messaenger 4.7 (version 4.7.2009) from being run, the problem of a stall of about 15 seconds exist when I start Outlook Express 6(sp1). Other than that it basically runs fine, what is the cause or fix with this?

I also try to diable access to messenger using the "set program default and accesibility" function comes with XPsp1 but to no result. smile

First create a system restore point (just in case), and then make sure you close all running instances of Outlook Express and Windows Messenger. smile

open regedit.exe and find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Create a new DWORD entry called:

Hide Messenger

Enter a hexadecimal value of 2 for this new entry.

To disable this tweak simply delete the 'Hide Messenger' entry. Both these tweaks take effect instantly, you do not have to log off or restart your computer for them to work.
