XP Pro System Restore Crash

My Windows Media Player 9 crashed few times so I reinstalls it. As it reinstalls it adds system restore point right... Anyway here is the deal after that I noticed it still crash so I wish to revert back.

In msconfig I tried launching System Restroe it crashes. My Help & Support in start menu also crashes if I tried openning them.

Any idea how to get system restore back into working order?

I'd try to reaplly SP1. IF that doesn't work you have have to use the ASR from the boot disk to retore original files. and reinstall all updates

Update on this problem:

Tried resinstall all updates as well as SP1a didn't help thus since I had some time on my hands I format c:\ and did a fresh install again.
