I have 2 "hot fixes" that will not install through the normal windows update and when given the "Setup Canceled" window it lists the following Q numbers.

Q318138
Q323172

When I went to MS site to see (google search) what they are and how to install them it I didn't find a how to for NT, only 2000.

Can I run these 2000 fixes on a NT box?
Yes I'm fighting a virus/worm.

Win2000 fixes cannot, will not, ever work on NT.

There are a great deal of fixes coming out for 2000 that will not be released for NT4. Microsoft doesn't want to release patches for NT4. They want you to upgrade immediately, and this is how they do it.

In their defense, they have to leave it behind sometime...

I would like to point out the blatently obvious:
1: Different code requires different patches
2: Most of the security holes didn't exist in NT4 in the first place, it's different code
3: If for some strange reason you were able to install the wrong patch it would surely screw up whatever you were supposed to be fixing.

You might give a 21st century operating system a try and see how you like it smile.
Cheers,
Christian

Thx for the quick response!

I do understand that NT 4.0 is old and the systems (work puters) will be replaced soon.

It is a very primative enviroment for most that post here but until now has been the backbone of the office here.

Thx again for the help and hope they don't buy a bunch of HP's. 8)
