NTFS filesystem & its ability to ENCRYPT files & folders...

(This may be your ticket!)

smile

APK

It only works on pro though. If you don't have pro and you want to just password protect it you could just put a password on a zip file. That will not prevent others from copying the file and/or running apps to break the password.

Perhaps PGP would work for you, or zip/rar the folder up and use a strong password (letters, numbers, and special characters >8 characters in length).

Yeah, that should do it. Winrar or winzip are both shareware that will do it. You don't need ntfs to do it. BTW, I have never had any compatibility problems with ntsf.

Though if you went the route of NTFS for windows XP home you could lock out users by configuring the ACL in Safe Mode.

convert /fs:ntfs

Winzip and WinRAR are not effective for securing documents. It is so easy to bypass. Considering the types of documents he/she wants to protect, I would not use WinZip or WinRAR to protect the files.

games work regaurdless of file system, whereever or whoever told that games have to be run on FAT32 is full of it. Also if you are running XP Home then there is no way to encrypt files frown because it doesnt have the ability to do that.

Couldn't he also could use NT resource kit tools for this easily enough as well like cacls etc. if XP Home does not have the security permissions settings in its Explorer.exe menus?

Sure why not, though for someone using Home Edition, I imagine they havent played with the Resource Kit tools at all .....

APK, I have yet to see (work with) Home Edition myself smile

Enjoy the weekend.
