Here is the problem with a fresh install of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. When a NEW IE browser window is opened it takes up to 1 min for it to find the URL. Even if I just visted it. After the browser hits that first page everything is back to normal and I can browse at normal speed. This only happens when I open a new IE window. What gives?

IE Version: 6.0.3790.0

Go to Tools Menu => Internet Options => Connections Tab => LAN Settings and uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings" (if its checked). Its probably trying to find a proxy server on your network.

Why would you want to use a browser that is full of security holes and new ones every week (or so it seems) when there is a far better solution that is 1/7th the size?:

Actually, IE in Windows Server 2003 in it's default configuration is pretty secure. Builds after RC2 included the IE hardening pack, which substantially improves browser security.

That being said, from a Phoenix, err, Mozilla Firebird user.
