hey all.

yeah well, brain fart!

i got 4 computers on a network using a simple hub.

1 - server - using ICS to share inet out to hub where other comps connect.

all the computer can connect to the internet fine.

but i can not browse the network or see any comps. When i hit

view network computers - i get the error that i don't got permission to use the resources on the workgroup MSHOME (using it as defualt)

but - i can see the computer if i type in \\computer\

that works, but i can not browse?

Can you ping each machine by name? Also you can use the nbtstat command in DOS to see which machine is acting as the master browser.

I kind of have a simmular problem. Whenever I reboot my server (Win2K server with Win2K pro's) the server does not win the election to become the master browser.

weird Alec - as i have never had to add names or anything like that before on my network back in costa rica - just plug in a system and tadda! can see the network.

2 of these systems are using the same account name - Dave - and the same password on them (it is my uncles set up - easier to remember for him)

Now i think his main system is trying to be the master browser(one i am on now called "davescomp") - as his AMD system in event viewer has some error's under system

"MrxSmb"

The master browser has received a server annoucncement from the computer DAVESCOMP that believes that it is the master browser for the dowmain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_blah blah blah. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced"

I did not know computers ran democracies smile

But i am gonna try what u suggested Alec - see what happens!

if that don't work any other suggestions?

Mr. G wink

This was heavily covered by apk, clutch, and myself about a month or so ago. I would recommend searching through the message board.

Browstat.exe and Browmon.exe are you tools for debugging browsing issues.

To set a preferred browse master
http://is-it-true.org/nt/registry/rtips15.shtml

I would begin with this.

Also have you tried creating a LMHOSTS file?
