Matrox RT X10 capture card... Video card options?

Recommended Posts

My dad is putting together his own video editing system (with my help :)) and we're stumped on which video card to go for.

Obviously we don't want to skimp on performance, but since he's not going to be doing any 3D gaming we don't need a Ge-Force FX beast either.

Basically we need a decent priced card with TV-Out, PLUS one that is compatible with the Matrox RT X10 capture card.

Will a GF4 440MX based card do the job, or is that wishful thinking? Does anyone else use the above capture card have any suggestions?

Thanks

I would go with a Matrox video card. If the capture card is from Matrox it is probably easier to get support from Matrox. They also have a new video chipset which is quite fast in 2D and 3D graphics too.

another suggestion is to go with an ATI All-In-Wonder if you don't have to stick to the Matrox capture card. (I have no experience with that capture card so I could be wrong) It may just save you a lot of compatibility and support headache.

I take my second suggestion back. From the reviews i have read this thing must be awwwwssome for video capture. I may want to try one myself. Exept that i have to make sure I'm not limited to some video cards. like the ATI TV wonder that you had to have an ATI video card and use a ribbon cable to connect the ISA card to your ATI video card. (I hated that system, not worth having it)
