Log on as an Administrator

start, run 'services.msc'

double click on 'Messenger' stop the service then set the startup type to 'disabled'

hope this helps smile

For ppl that are running a personnal network and does not want to stop the messenger service (or can not stop it) you can block the following ports:

TCP 135, 137, 138
UDP 135, 139, 445

Blocking the ports would effectively be disabling it, though, and given that most firewalls have limited numbers of ports that can be blocked, it'd be a better solution just to disable the service.
