VMware Workstation dedicated NIC

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, after using VMware workstation (3.2) for a while, I thought it might be a good idea to add a second NIC to my primary machine, only for VMware's use, so my primary adapter doesn't have to be bridged anymore.

I have everything installed, and my 1st (primary) NIC has the VMware Bridge Protocol unchecked, and the 2nd (vmware) NIC has it checked.

So I checked in VMware's settings, and I can't seem to find a way to use the physical 2nd NIC, without bridging the adapter, which I'd like to avoid, if possible.

All seems fine, except when I do not have a VM running, Windows will switch back and forth between which NIC is used (for downloads, etc.)

I think disabling the TCP/IP stack on the 2nd NIC would force Windows to use the 1st NIC, but I'm sure that would affect the bridging to the VM.

So, does anyone have any ideas on if it's possible to specify that NIC 2 is only used by the VM?

By the way, the host OS is Windows 2000, SP3, and the guest OS varies, anything from Linux to .NET Server, etc.

Thanks,

Adam
