Communicating from XP to NT4

we have just purchased 2 computers with XP prof. OS and are trying to authenicate to a NT 4 server. For some reason I can not do that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your company policy [b]SHOULD[b] be to wipe the OS that is on the computer when you receive it from the company.

Are you using the same computer name as what was previously on the domain? If so delete the workstation from the domain list.
