XP problems RE: Tribes 2 + Mechwarrior 3

These games often produce errors or simply close on me in what seems to be a random manner. Unreal Tournament runs fine. Are these problems likely to be solved with the latest patches for the games + the latest windows service pack? (Which I'm not going to download until my cable connection is installed on the 26th as they're far too big for my poor 56K modem!)

I doubt it. Sound's like a memory problem to me. Not overclocking are you? Latest AGP/Video drivers?

No, I'm not overclocking at all. The CPU is running at 1667MHz as it should be. I downloaded the latest drivers for the GeForce 4 but that hasn't improved anything.
