CD- drives powersaving failure

I have E-IDE 52x/AKH A66 plain, simple cd-drive. The problem is that I would need to set the drives powersaving feature for 4 or 8 minutes, since one of my game disks installs really slow and thus requires more time. When I try to change the setting from Creative's Disk Detector and change the settings, it automatically kicks the setting back to default, i.e few seconds. It won't accept changes. what to do?
