When running certain files (avi) Divx, WMP 7.1 will go full screen but will not show the movie in full screen.

It will show the normal size video in the bottom left hand corner of the screen while the rest of the screen is black.

I've tried downloading new codecs, uninstalling/reinstalling, but nothing works.

Any ideas?

Ancker......

No, the player goes full screen, but the video stays its original size while the rest of the screen is black.

Hi Ancker,

I was having the same problem, no full screen mode in WMP 9. Read this post. Found this.

Tools > Options > Performance tab > Advanced button. Uncheck the checkbox labled "Enable full-screen mode switch".

That did it for me.

Just for a point of reference. For me bringing up my direct-x
util. showed directdraw was disabled. I reenabled it. also, the tip to turn off fullscreen switch is on the money.
