I'm having a problem with my toshiba sdm 1212 dvd rom drive and windows xp pro. When the drive is in dma mode 2 I get errors copying files from it and it will not play dvds or anything inserted. The error says something about an i/o error occuring. But as soon as I put it in PIO mode it works fine, but in this mode dvd and audio playback are choppy and When i try to copy files from it the computer slows right down.

I believe this drive is a DMA mode 2 device (ata 33), that's what it says when my computer boots up and in the bios, so why can't I use it in dma mode 2 in win xp?
