You could try using VDMSound to try and get sound under windows 2000. I wouldn't generally recommend running DOS games under windows 2000 however.

Hmm let's think here. Windows 2000 is not a DOS based system. If you wanna play a DOS game then use DOS. It's not that hard to set up a Win98/2K dual boot system ya know. Heck, buy an old 486 for 20 bucks or less and put pure DOS on that, or even Win95. laugh

Yeah but the point is that DOS games generally DO work in 2000 with little/no fuss, so whats the point in setting up a dual boot, or using and entirely new PC.

Okay, I got the MAX Setup running with VDM Sound.
When I try to start the game the with VDM Sound, it says in the DOS Window:

"Loading VDDLoader.dll"
"Successfully loaded & initialised (hVDD = 0x01)."

"DOS/4GW Protected Professional Mode Run Time Version 1.97

"Screen Init. failed"

"Press any Key"

Then it Exits back to Win2000.

What am I doing wrong?

you need to setup a bat file that goes into fullscreen and also starts vdmsound too. it won't work when starting as a window.

a bat something like this...

@echo off

REM Launch VDMS
dosdrv.exe /iVDMS.INI

REM Free up some environment space
set VDMSPath=

REM Set the BLASTER variable
set BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6

REM Run the game
c\games\max\maxrun.exe

REM Close the window
pause
exit

it's a great game!

(edit this bat example is a truncation/modification of the default vdms launch bat which you can find in the vdms install dir.)

by the way, is there any way to play M.A.X. over the internet?
I've seen the multyplayer option in the mainscreen but it seems like it is only LAN related..
