Changing Product Key

Hi Guys,

 

Once Windows is activated is there a way to change the working product key. I just want to see what happens, when you put a wrong product key. Does it ask for activation or what happens.

As far as I remember it was somewhere under this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

It worked for Windows98/ME so I am not sure how's with WindowsXP...
