Virtual Memory

How much should I increase the virtual memory because I like load ICQ and some other programs and the error message comes up you are running low in virtual memory. I don't want to see that everytime and I would always have to restart the computer. I have a C and D hard drive. C drive with 647MB and D with 3.47GB of free space and I just want to increase memory in C drive because I screwed up my computer last time.
