I'm having a problem saving/downloading files using IE and am curious if anyone has a solution - or has run into a similar problem. Is there a security setting on Win 2000 that I may have inadvertently triggered?

I am running IE 6 browser on a lapton with Win 2000. I also have netscape browser and Opera installed as well.

I am unable to download ANY type of file using IE 6 for example a e-mail file attachments from hotmail etc, files dowload from software websites, pdf files, ANYTHING at all. After a few seconds I get an error message saying that IE is unable to download the file. This works if I try to click on a file or if I right click and use "save target as". Nothing works.

However, I have no problem doing these operations using the Netscape and Opera browsers.

I originally had this problem on IE 5 and then 5.5 so I updated to IE 6 - so that doesn't seem to be the an issue here.

I checked the security setting in the IE 6 options and nothing there seems to be amiss. In the options, file downloads are enabled and so is Java scripting.

Some one suggested that I update my Java. I tried the update process on the sun website but nothings happens when I click on it. I don't think it completes the operation. However the Netscape brower was able to be updated and works fine.

IS there some feature in Win 2000 that can disable a specific program from dowloading files - or is something else the problem here.

Any input is much appreciated.....
