Did you enable the Fax service?
Other than that, I don't know if XP reacts by itself to external calls, try to get some Telephony software. Did you get any with your modem?

I install a special fax service give with the modem, it supposed to "answer" but only to deliver a telephonic message frown
I 'm actually under XP as u guess, i've tried to put
a "AT" command in the "special command" window of the modem's properties but it still don't work.
Under win9x or Win 2000, what is the usual way to make a modem react to an extern call ? I dunno but it may help ...

Annyway thank for help Palos
