Hi Guys,
Just Rebuilt my Win2K system.
And from what i can tell evrything works fine and dandy, so i am wondering wether i should bother installing Direct X 8.1 and latest Video and Soundcard drivers.
I mainly only use the system for internet and work purposes, occasionally some media stuff.
What's the deal with DirectX ? Does that only speed up the system under gaming or does it increase general system performance?
And Video Drivers?
I do occasionally encode and decode MP3's on my system, do sound drivers have any impact on quality there?
196Mb PC100, 400mhz PII, 8mb ATI Rage, Yamaha Sound.
Cheers,

Hi!
DirectX is a collection of lots of functions that help programmers to make (mostly) games. Since you don't play the newest games (do you?) you won't need DX8. And DX7 comes preinstalled with w2k, I think.
Since everything seems to work fine, there's no NEED for updating your drivers. If there are any newer drivers availible for you soundcard, they are probably only gamerelated fixes. Same goes for the videocard.
