defragmentation error

when i try to defrag my d: it says 'Engine Connection lost' but i can defragment all my other partitions.

hd1 : c:\ and d:\
hd2 : g:\ and f:\

all defragment fine except d:\

any ideas ?

try disabling all backgroud processes, especially virus scanners when doing a defrag.

i had som damage to the disk, i did a chkntfs and a chkdsk and it worked out fine

I was having the same "lost engine connection" trying to run defrag. I ran chkntfs and it fixed my prob. Thanks!

I have the same problem but Im not sure what to do with chkntfs, please advice!
Ive tried to just type 'chkntfs C:' but it just says C: isnt dirty.
What to do?
