dial up doesn't work

Hi,

Can anyone help me please: I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 2000. I have been unable to dial up an ISP. When I try to connect, the ISP accepts my username and password, but then tells me that no compatible protocol can be found. My laptop is also set up for a Novell network. I've checked the settings with the ISP technical support but we've failed to resolve the problem.

(If I try to set up a dial up connection using the wizard, the dial up internet option in step 2 is greyed out).
