This morning after installing the newest winxp drivers for the ati radeon 8500. After a reboot my system started ok but I started getting errors saying that my hard drives were not properly mounted. then the system froze and I had to restart it manually.

At the next reboot I got a blue screen saying that there were no bootable partitions mounted.

I ran partition magic from dos and it wont even finish a disk check of the main partition because there are too many errors!!!(It comes up with errors like "file marked named..." "crosslinked files....." "partion unproperly dismounted" and some others i dont remember. I have no way of recovering any data on this drive and that is a problem. could this be a prob with the drive or is it some thing to do with the driver install (doesnt seem likely)? I am desperate to get this system running again so any help would be appreciated.

oh the hard drive is an IBM 40gig that is only a few months old.
system spec:

Abit kg7 with t-bird 1400
512 pc2400 corsair drr
2 40 gig Ibm 7200rpm (one of these is the problem drive)
1 20 gig Ibm 7200rpm
Ati Radeon 8500
SBLive! platinum (not 5.1)
Linksys 10/100 nic
Teac 12/10/32 cdrw

Also. After trying to get my comp to boot I decided to take and put the hard drive in my wifes sytem to see if I can get to the info on the drive. When I started her sys up winxp installed the drive and said it needed to reboot so I did. On the next boot up windows would lock up at the logon screen and I would have to turn the power supply off to get it to turn off.

I took out the disk and rebooted her sys and guess what??...Blue screen on start up (says win2k32.sys page_fault_in_non_paged_area). So I have two useless computers and a really bad head ache.

Im hoping that I can get hers going with the winxp boot disk but I think mine is going to be a format and partition(as long as the drive is still good).

Im just really stumped that a video driver install could do this to a perfectly running system (well if it was the drivers than I will be having a discussion with ATI tech support).

well if any one can tell me what they think ie: is the drive probably bad?, was it the drivers or something else?, etc. I would be greatful
