Madden 2001 Install problems

Using XP pro with Thunderbird processor, 256 mb ram, gf2mx. When trying to install an error box pops up that says insufficient memory to run in 16 bit windows mode. No other processes are running. No problem to install nhl 2001 or madden 2000. Thanks in advance for your help, I'd like to see any ideas.
