(XP) "Connect to local host failed quickly with error 1

Recommended Posts

I Have a BIG Problem in XP..

I can´t somehow connect to certain things..

I run/have:

XP Pro Corp.

Duron, ABIT KT7. 3Com NIC from 1996.

10mbit LAN to Internet.

I run ICQ, it works. I can check my mail. No problem. Surfing? no problem. Direct Connect?! Sure.

But these following things don´t work:

(All of the below except for BattleCom works under WinME without a problem. Haven´t tried it there)

Quicktime:

I Haven´t been able to connect to their server to install the player.

Ever. With Or Without Proxy (I´m supposed to run without)

Been trying for the last four weeks now.

NFS 5 Porsche:

Cant reach an IP-Adress for a session

The same seems to go for All games on the net. From Internet Checkers to Quake3!!

Audiogalaxy:

When i try to start the satellite i get the message:

"Connect to local host failed quickly with error 10061."

Then it suggest i disable my firewall.

I dont run a firewall!!

Neither ZoneAlarm nor XP´s internal.

Battlecom:

Can´t host a session:

"Battlecom could not find a server at the specified address."

When i press F1 for "help" it says:

"This error occurs when you are attempting to join a session using the TCP/IP protocol. It means that the client is unable to find a session at the address you have specified.

Re-check the address you have entered in the connection box and make corrections if necessary. If the address you entered is correct then it is possible that the server or session is not running or is full. Try the connection again later."

But i tried to HOST?!?!

???

And of course I can´t join either!!

What i´ve tried:

1) I tried installing another NIC (Intel 10/100) but the same problem was still there...

I have a "3Com 3C900COMBO-based Ethernet Adapter (Generic)" (10mbit from 1996) according to Device Manager. I KNOW it´s a 3Com Combo so there shouldn´t be any problems there..

2) Looking for a clue for the "error 10061" i get from starting audiogalaxy..

10061 is an errornumber for "WSAECONNREFUSED"

"If a Win32 Winsock clients issues a connect() call over TCP/IP protocol for a server and the server is not listening on the specified port, connect() returns SOCKET_ERROR and WSAGetLastError() returns error WSAECONNREFUSED(10061). However, the IPX/SPX implementation of Windows sockets on the Windows NT platform returns error WSAENETUNREACH for the same scenario."

It seems like i´m trying to connect to things from the wrong port?!? Am I right or Totally Wrong?!?!

HELP!! HOW can I Fix this?!?!
