Help
I am having trouble with my laptop running WinXP Pro to see the rest of my home network. I have 2 Win2k Servers running and a few other WinXP desktops. The networking is running on just a Workgroup setup, no domain. When I try to view the Workgroup computer from my laptop, it says "Not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource." When I had Win2k on the laptop, I had no problems. I stopped Computer Browser service to see if that would help, but it did not. Please help!

are you using a static ip or dhcp
if a static ip make sure it is not being used by another machine and that the subnet is correct.
if u are using dhcp try setting a static one

How many systems do you have? If you have a couple of W2K servers and several workstations, why not implement a name resolution service like DNS or WINS? If you setup WINS on one of your servers, just give it an hour and all of the workstations should play nice with each other again. Of course, you would want to setup all the clients to have the WINS addy in their respective network properties. You could also setup the same server to be a DHCP server, and distribute all the properties at the same time to your clients and speed up client registration as well.

Setup the one server as WINS, and made all the changes to the clients. The XP Laptop no longer gives an error when trying to view workgroup computers. But nothing comes up at all. So I am still at a standstill.

It still sounds like your laptop is not part of the workgroup that your servers are in. Why aren't you using a domain anyway? It makes administration much, much easier. Have you tried using WWW, Telnet, or FTP?

Is the internal firewall software running on your machines? If it is that would explain why you would not be able to ping or browse the other machines on your network.
To check or disable the firewall option in XP right click on your "Local Area Connection" icon and select properties than click the "Advanced" tab.
