Anyone know of an app that will emulate the keyboard on a gamepad, so that games that only accept keyboard as a controller can be played with a gamepad ?

If you have an MS joystick you can use the Sidewinder controller software to map keyboard keys to gamepad buttons.

Only a cheap Saitek controller I'm afraid (X6-34U), works OK for emulators.

Sorry, no good.
Either DOS only, or requires special made hardware.

I originally saw this over at Volitions board and it might be able to help: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html

Its called Joy2Key and its rumored to do what you require but I'm told that the documentation is in Japanese so you may or may not be able to actually get it to do something.
