Sorry people if this is a repeated post. i already used the search engine and none of the results helped me much.
My question is how do you password-protect shares under windows 2000 AND windows XP? Please include for BOTH windows 2000 and Windows XP.

btw, this is NOT the login stuff. I know how to do that. this is SPECIFIC share protection by using a password (e.g password protecting a shared folder)

Why not use permissions? Deny read permission and they will not be able to open it.

No, that would be far too much trouble by setting permissions to EVERY SINGLE USER. Also, I need to know how to set password protection for shares anyway...

Create a group, put all the users in the group. Then assign permissions to the group.

I don't want to do it through permissions as i explained earlier. I need to lear how to do it through password-protection anyways!
