Is there ANY way to do FireWire on NT4?
Even third party software?

Yes. Several IEEE 1394 cards have NT4 drivers.

Do you know any by name?
Most that I have looked at only have drivers for Win98 Se or 2000.

I know that some of Pinnacle DV cards (200 models and up) come with NT support for Adobe Premiere 5 and up. But that's only for DV cams not for 1394 IEEE external HDD's and other devices. The Canopus DV Raptor as well has support for DV cams on NT.

Hope that helps.

If you're going to be using firewire on NT4, you should perhaps think about enabling DMA mode if you use IDE hard drives

We want to use the FireWire (IEEE1394) with our Nikon D1H digital cameras to allow direct download from the camera. We want to use USB card readers as a backup to read the smart card "film".
