Ipc$

In attempting to setup a home network, my friend has come across this problem and I have no answer for him. Maybe someone can help us out. It seems that when he tries to access the server from the client all he sees there is IPC$ and not the shared folder he setup. What seems to be the problem here? IPC cannot be deleted or removed as it re-appears upon reboot.

Server is Win2kpro
Client is Win98se
2 nic setup via crossover cable

Additonally, fdisk the the system and re-set up...same prob.

The IPC$ is the admin share that is used by the browser service. Are you running windows 98 on one of the machines? if then maybe check your password to see if its correct and/or delete any .pwl file for the user that you logon with.
Make sure that the user your logging on with has the proper permissions to access the server

*you got your password wrong at logon thats why it comes up*
i've done that a few times b4 by mistake type-0 hehe
