Hello all. I just installed Windows XP Evaluation Copy Build 2505 to check out XP. So far everything is great. Actually, I like XP better than Win2k. I have a small problem. I can't view some Divx movies and I can view some Divx movies perfectly fine. The ones that I can't view, I could hear the sound in the movie but no video at all. But the sound itself isn't perfect. It was laggy. Anyone else having this kind of problem? BTW, I have Divx 3.11 Alpha installed. That codec work perfectly in Win2k for me.

I had this problem in earlier version of XP but as of RC1 I haven't experienced it though.

Only thing I can think is that these movies are not divx but SMR (nAvi). This requires a different codec (smr patch)

Both extentions are .avi so maybe that's the prob.

If it doesn't help, try using third party soft to play your divx movies.

I've had good experiences with Gdivx player. It works great under XP too. The current version is 1.90 and can be downloaded @ www.gdivx.com

btw: This is also great on slower machines because it uses less memory and cpu power than Mediaplayer.

Hope this helps you out.

Yeah, those Divx movies that Media Player refused to play works with GDivx player and earlier Media Player 6.4 (tried it on another computer with Media Player 6.4 installed). I guess it must be a bug with Windows XP's version of Media Player.
