Hello,

I have a couple of NT 4.0 WKS client setup and an NT4 PDC server. The client is login onto the network through a policy I have setup for them. I'm trying to have login script to synchronized the wks with the server so all terminals are showing the same time. I can't use NET TIME \\SERVERNAME /SET /YES command in the logon.bat file because "a require privelidge is not held by a client".
Anyone have a suggestion????

Here is a good link for the info you may need. It also contains another link for user rights.

One other thing that you *might* need to do is set the server as the default timekeeper for the domain. For that, you can go here:

This should help, good luck.

Clutch, thanks

I was able to use the USER Manger and set the user's right to change time. Bad news is that I have to go to every workstations and set the right one at a time. Unless anyone has any better.

I want to try the second option of setting timeserver as a service, if anyone can tell me where I can DL Timeserv.exe (part of Res Toolkit) point me to it. (don't tell me to buy a Res ToolKit please...:-( )

again thanks Clutch for the help....

You can't just add the right to the "Domain Users" group? Also, the second link shows an automated procedure using scripting to adjust users' rights.

I try from the server user manager to give a domain users right to change system time, it's still not allowing a PDC users to change the time on the local NT Workstation to match that of the server. I had to logon as local admin from nt wks, using user manager, user rights, select change system time, and pick out the user from the server domain name lists. The local Nt does not have a user profile, just admin. Guess it make some sense for me why that way work. I'll just play with it some more..

Bytemangler,

Goto Micro$ofts FTP site at the following address:

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/reskit/y2kfix/timeserv

Download all 4 files:

timeserv.htm
timeserv.exe
timeserv.ini
timeserv.dll

Check the HTML file for instructions on how to edit the INI file.

NOTE: This little progette also works with Windows 2000.

I'm tired, and lost. What does this do? I have roaming profiles setup on my server. And it seems that sometimes it dose not update the server copy from the local copy. Does this have anything to do with that?

bytemangler,

Have you tried anything with group policies? That might help.
