problems with compiling

Hi. when i download a program and try to install it. I extract it. Then run "./configure". Then when i run "make" it fails. Is there anything that i'm doing wrong. Do i have to extract it to a certain directory. Can u please help me.

If you can use gnome-terminal or konsole and try it again, you can copy the exact errors you're getting and paste them here. That will go a long way to getting help with what the problem is.
