sorry..yet another via ide and ata100 query...

please forgive me...i am a newcomer...

 

my query is how to enable ata100 (or any speed for that matter), on my system, which currently comprises of:

 

FIC Az11E mobo (686B southbridge)

Maxtor 51536h2 ata100 h/d

Windows 2k pro

Via 4-in-1's latest beta (.322 i think)

SP1

MS ata100 hotfix

 

the issue i have is that before applying the hotfix, both the primary and secondary channels were set at udma transfer mode, after applying the fix the primary channel reverted to PIO.

 

I have tried both manual and automatic install of the via's (both 4-in-1's and the individual drivers) to no avail - the highest performance i have benched with Sandra 8.11 is somewhat less than a udma33 drive.

 

the cables i use are appropriate/connected correctly and the drive performed very well in the same benchmark under win me just 4 days ago.

 

please, if anybody knows how to get a decent rate of data transfer with my system, tell me!

try installing service pack 2 for windows 2000. then get back to us.
