I just installed the adaptec aspi drivers (v. 4.60) and I ran the aspi check prog and it says I have all the right files and the latest version but it also gives me an error saying it failed to initialize the aspi layer. CDRWin also fails to initialize the aspi layer manager as well. I was playing around with my services the other day with the help of a guide from 3dspotlight.com so Im thinking it might be one of the services screwing it up but I dont know which one.

Its working now for me. I didn't do anything except restart the comp a few times. It didn't work after the first restart either so Im puzzled, but at least now it works the way it should have been working.

I to have ASPI problems randomly.

especially while ripping cd's

i could rip say 8 cd's perfectly then the 9th would fail.

this WAS fixed by rebooting 2 times..also try a powerdown..

I haven't tried ripping since SP2 maybe that will fix this problem.
