I would like to create a shortcut for the newsgroup program on my desktop. It is for the file msimn.exe. I have Outlook 2000 installed on my computer and the problem I'm having is that when I double click on this file to get their instead of going through Outlook 2K and clicking on view--->go to--->news it will try to get me to register Outlook 97 as the default mail client. What variable can I put in the desktop shortcut so that it always opens it with Outlook 2K? I don't want to have to take the check out of the box so that it doesn't check this.

Outlook 2000 adds an icon for a news-only version of Outlook express.
The command line is "D:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews
You should be able to set your newsreader and mailreader independantly in the Internet control panel.

Sorry that didn't help by adding that to the command line. It still comes up asking me if I want Outlook 6 as my default email program.

Try /newsonly instead of /outnews
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly
