When I was running under Win98SE, browsing my friends' computers over Network Neighborhood was quick and painless. (Their computers were also all running Win98SE) However, ever since I upgraded to Win2k, it takes 20 seconds or so for a directory to load up now when I connect to their computers using Network Neighborhood. Can anyone tell me why and how I can fix this annoying delay problem? Thanks!

To increase speed browsing network shares, delete this registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}]

(as found in this thread only a little way down the board: http://www.ntcompatible.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=13640 )

To increase speed of "My Network Places" listing either install WINS (if you have a Win2k server machine on your network) or create an lmhosts file in the directory \winnt\system32\drivers\etc

There should be an example file (lmhosts.sam) in the same directory to help you.

Thanks for the help. Deleting the key did the trick.
